Founded in 1987, HMD has played a vital role in Houston’s commerce, creativity, and innovation. Our members include 21 institutions that range widely in terms of size, scope, and focus area—engaging audiences through art, history, science, spirituality, and much more. Though we share a leafy 9-square-mile neighborhood in central Houston, our reach extends far beyond.

Individually, we curate acclaimed programming and exhibitions in our respective disciplines—yet we are bound by a common purpose: to champion Houston as a global hub for creative and intellectual expression.

HMD is not only a destination; we’re a collective coalition.

As a collective, we defy tidy
categories and resist uniformity.
We are art.
We are history.
We are science.
We are contemplative;
we are rowdy.
We are large;
we are small.
We are seasoned; we are fresh;
we don’t look or think alike.
We are many; we are varied—but we share a singular vision, grounded in fervent devotion and unbridled enthusiasm:
Our Vision

To celebrate Houston’s arts and culture and herald our city’s vibrancy far and wide.
