Rothko Chapel

Home to 14 murals by painter Mark Rothko and Barnett Newman’s majestic sculpture, Broken Obelisk, dedicated to the living legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Rothko Chapel creates opportunities for contemplation and social action at the intersection of art, spirituality, and human rights. The Chapel’s mission is centered on a commitment to further understanding about our shared humanity and the contributions we can make toward a world in which all are treated with dignity and respect. A tranquil, meditative environment inspired by the artist Mark Rothko, the Chapel annually welcomes over 100,000 visitors from all parts of the world who come to the Chapel for inspiration and renewal.
